Aur Beck’s next class at John A Logan starts Jan 23rd. It is one Saturday a month. The goal is to pass the NABCEP Associate test (certification) and do a hands on installation the last Saturday of the class. Thanks to a grant the courses are free, and the test costs are covered also. Participants will learn how to correctly design, size, select PV system components and identify and interpret National Electric Code (NEC) articles that pertain to the installations. While working on a hands-on install, participants will learn safety procedures, system design and layout, component selection and specification, electrical and mechanical integration techniques, and troubleshooting. It includes: introduction to photovoltaics and other renewable-energy technologies; Solar Radiation; Site Surveys and Preplanning; System Components and Configurations; and, practical, hands-on show and tell in the installation of roof racks, solar modules and inverters. Those who successfully complete these courses will be prepared to converse with solar contractors, and will have the knowledge and skill sets to apply for positions within the renewable energy industry.
